Sometimes I forget to be grateful.

Sometimes I forget to be grateful.
Like when I wake up in the morning after not getting enough sleep.
I forget I have a bed in a safe warm house with running water.

Or when I am overwhelmed with all of the work I have to do.
I forget I have a job and a purpose.

Or when my kids are being so noisy that I get a headache.
I forget how much I love their voices and their love.

Sometimes I forget to be grateful.
Like when I get so angry about how unjust life can be.
I forget that the universe brings me experiences to give me a chance to be whole.

Sometimes I forget to be grateful...
but not today.

I am grateful to be alive and for you.
